Early in his career, he landed winemaking internships at Robert Mondavi Winery and then Far Niente Winery, where his interest in winemaking was piqued. However, it wasn\u2019t until a life-changing trip to the northern Rh\u00f4ne Valley and an apprenticeship that focused exclusively on Pinot Noir that he cemented his future in winemaking.<\/p><p>In 1997, after completing his master\u2019s degree at UC Davis, TJ traveled to New Zealand to work harvest at Villa Maria Estate, and then to the Rh\u00f4ne Valley, where his time at 500-year-old Domaine Jean-Louis Chave put his winemaking life in perspective.<\/p><p>Upon his return to the United States, Evans took a position at La Crema Winery in the Russian River Valley, where he focused on crafting Pinot Noir\u2014and ignited an obsession with the grape. He then went to Alderbrook Winery in Dry Creek Valley, where he continued to work with Pinot Noir in addition to single-vineyard Zinfandels. While his focus was to expand his knowledge of Pinot, working with Zinfandel was one of the most influential aspects in his understanding of blending. From 2005 to 2008, Evans returned to the southern hemisphere, this time developing a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir estate for Vinedos y Bodegas Corpora in the B\u00edo B\u00edo Valley of Chile.<\/p><p>Upon returning from Chile, and drawing from his past experiences, Evans knew that Carneros was where he could best use his Pinot Noir\u2013making skills. Domaine Carneros was an easy choice: It allowed him to apply his 10 years of experience to the still wines while also exploring the use of Pinot Noir in a way that was new to him\u2014in the production of sparkling wine.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-544a1ff6 elementor-section-full_width elementor-section-content-top elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"544a1ff6\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-wide\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-5072fe21\" data-id=\"5072fe21\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5d1060 elementor-widget__width-auto elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5d1060\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-small\">1.\tHow or why did you become a winemaker?<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f228ebe elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f228ebe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>I am a frustrated artist.\u00a0 I saw winemaking as a craft that I could master by applying myself to the understanding of both the vineyard and the cellar.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6297bce0 elementor-widget__width-auto elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6297bce0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-small\">2. What are the most frustrating and rewarding parts of making wine?<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-52d602a4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"52d602a4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As farmers we must submit ourselves to Mother Nature.\u00a0 We cannot control the growing season \u2013 we simply have to react to what we are given.\u00a0 This is beautiful because it brings us in contact with the subtle\u00a0 rhythm of the seasons, but it is humbling to feel so powerless.\u00a0 For me, the most rewarding part is to be able to pull out a wine, whether old or new, and share it with friends, family, and strangers (aka new friends).\u00a0 When you make a connection over a bottle of wine, or even about that bottle of wine, it is a special kind of shared communication.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7961321 elementor-widget__width-auto elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7961321\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-small\">3. cider.\u00a0 Of course, there is a lot of Pinot Noir from different regions including Burgundy.\u00a0 I have even started to really appreciate the history of the Napa Valley through the Cabs from the 80s and 90s.\u00a0 They are beautiful wines that just take a little more cellar time until they are as supple as Pinot Noir.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div
