Q. What is the grape that Prosecco is made from called?<\/p>\n

A. Prosecco is made from the Glera grape and up to 15% of other varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, and other native grapes.<\/p>\n

But did you know that in the past, the grape was called Prosecco? In 2009, the wine was officially declared \u201cProsecco\u201d and the grape \u201cGlera.\u201d This way, winemakers outside of Prosecco\u2019s zone of Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia could no longer call their sparkling wine \u201cProsecco.\u201d It\u2019s similar to how the French protect the name Champagne as a place of origin.<\/p>\n
