Being that this is France (and Burgundy no less), each has a purpose and provides precise information. Let us break it down:<\/p>\n

Pernand-Vergelesses <\/strong>(pear<\/em>-non ver<\/em>-gel-less) \u2013 this is the name of the small village in the C\u00f4te de Beaune, which attaches to its surrounding vineyards. Pernand-Vergelesses is located just north of Savigny-l\u00e8s-Beaune and slightly west of Aloxe-Corton.<\/p>\n

Clos de la Croix de Pierre <\/strong>(klo<\/em> duh la kwah<\/em> duh pee<\/em>-air) \u2013 this refers to a walled vineyard (or clos<\/em>) which is marked by a picturesque stone cross (or croix<\/em>) dedicated to St. Pierre. This vineyard covers just 3.93 acres, in a relatively cool site, and on a slope facing northeast.<\/p>\n

En Caradeux Premier Cru <\/strong>(en kaira<\/em> dew) \u2013 this indicates that this small vineyard ( the Clos de la Croix de Pierre<\/em>) is part of a larger parcel named En Caradeux<\/em> \u00a0which is designated as appellation Premier Cru \u2013 but do note the appellation only applies to red<\/u> wines. Any white wine produced from this site would be villages<\/em>-level and could not indicate En Caradeux<\/em>. (Having fun yet?)<\/p>\n

Domaine des Heritiers Louis Jadot<\/strong> (domain des hair<\/em>-it-ee-ay) \u2013 remember the bit about Monopole<\/em> and a single owner? Here it is! This 3.93-acre parcel remains the property of descendants of the original Louis Henry Denis Jadot. These wines continue to be vinified and marketed by Maison Louis Jadot.<\/p>\n
