Ripe and polished, with juicy underlying energy to the mix of black currant and blackberry fruit flavors. Light hints of violet, apple wood and warm earth peek through as this red's solid grip holds the finish. Best from 2025 through 2036. 1,400 cases made.
Benchland Select is a special blend of five clones of Cabernet Sauvignon from two superior vineyards in the gently sloping western benchlands of Rutherford and Oakville. These vineyards benefit from cool afternoon shade provided by the Mayacamas Mountains, allowing the grapes to mature at a slow, even pace, and gravelly loam soils affording excellent drainage. Each lot is gently destemmed and fermented separately in small stainless steel tanks designed to maximize color, flavor and tannin extraction. Yeast strains, fermentation emperatures, maceration techniques and barrel aging regimens were specifically tailored to the character of each lot to capture the finest attributes of each vineyard block in the final blend.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
18 months aging in French oak barrels, 58% new
The 2021 vintage began with a mild winter and long spring, setting up our vines for a warm season. Consistently high summer
temperatures coupled with drought conditions led to a naturally small and high-quality harvest of deeply colored and concentrated
Cabernet Sauvignon ideal for cellaring
On the nose, an enticing bouquet of Rainier cherry and raspberry, complemented by delicate hints of floral notes and fresh sage. On the
palate, vibrant flavors of red plum and red currant, underscored by firm tannins and a hint of mocha. The finish is balanced,
showcasing concentrated black fruit and a refreshing acidity.
Pairs well with rich beef, pork or lamb dishes.
