How to Make a Poinsettia Cocktail

The Poinsettia cocktail is a festive holiday classic, known for its vibrant red hue that mirrors the iconic holiday flower it’s named after. This elegant drink combines the crisp, tart flavors of cranberry juice with the light effervescence of champagne or sparkling wine, often with a splash of orange liqueur like Cointreau for a citrusy twist. The Poinsettia’s simplicity and refreshing taste make it a perfect choice for holiday gatherings, whether as a brunch staple or an evening aperitif. Its bright color and sparkling bubbles bring a celebratory touch to any occasion, embodying the cheer and warmth of the season.

Ingredients

3 oz Cranberry Juice (preferably unsweetened or lightly sweetened)

2 oz Orange Liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)

4 oz Champagne or Sparkling Wine (chilled)

Fresh cranberries or an orange peel twist (for garnish)

Suggested Wines

Caposaldo Prosecco

Bouvet Ladubay Saphir

Poema Cava

Alta Vista Brut Nature

Instructions

  1. Combine the cranberry juice and orange liqueur in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well for about 10-15 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients.
  2. Strain the mixture into your glassware of choice and discard the ice. Fill the glass about two-thirds full.
  3. Top off with champagne. Carefully pour the wine in to make sure the bubbles aren’t disturbed or bubble over.
  4. Garnish and serve. Add a few fresh cranberries, an orange peel, or a sprig of rosemary to add a holiday touch to the cocktail.
