If you want to know how to make a wine tasting relatable even if you don’t know what quince tastes like, or what’s the difference between red and black currant, you just might want to watch this video.
In April 2020, Cherry Bombe was ready and set to hold their annual Jubilee Conference in New York City. When huge in-person events became a thing of the not-so-distant past because of lockdowns and Covid-19, Cherry Bombe quickly reassembled and ended up hosting an incredible conference live on Instagram: Jubilee 2.0. It was, in fact, Instagram’s first ever digital food and beverage conference — hard to believe with all the virtual and Zoom events now!
The video above is from the Happy Hour and Talent Show portion of Jubilee 2.0. In the video, sommelier Cha McCoy tastes Bouvet Ladubay Signature Brut and Excellence Brut Rosé, both Loire Valley sparkling wines from the Saumur wine region in France. They are made with the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle (like Champagne) with 90% Chenin Blanc and 10% Chardonnay in the Brut; the Rosé is made with 100% Cabernet Franc. Everything about Cha’s tasting and wine was relaxed, fun, and easy to understand. If you want to know how to make a wine tasting relatable even if you don’t know what quince tastes like or the difference between red and black currant, take a cue from Cha.
In the time since Jubilee 2.0 was held, Cha McCoy was made Beverage Director of Cherry Bombe: find her on @cherrybombedrinks.
At the beginning of the video, Cherry Bombe founder and editor-in-chief Kerry Diamond references a talk that Cha gave at Jubilee in 2019; this can be found on the Cherry Bombe podcast here, “I Am More than Moscato,” where Cha talks about diversity in the wine industry.
