Day #[wpdts-day-of-year start=”post-created”] of the year.

Feudo Maccari Contrada Santo Spirito Animardente Etna DOC

If you’re a history buff or one of those nerds (like me) who took Latin all four years of high school… You might know that today, March 15th marks the assignation of Julius Caesar thus causing the fall of the Roman Republic and the conception of the Roman Empire! On this hallowed day in Roman history, I would only pay respect to Julius by drinking wine as he would. It turns out that his favorite Roman wines to drink came from Sicily, particularly from areas with volcanic soil. So today, on the 2065th anniversary of “et tu, Brute?” I’ll raise a glass of Feudo Maccari Contrada Santo Spirito Animardente Etna. This red wine comes from the area surrounding Etna, the active volcano that gives Sicilian wines that special something that Caesar loved. If only I could now find someone to feed me grapes and cured meats as I lay on the couch watching Netflix. Et tu? what will you be drinking tonight?

ORIGIN

Etna, Sicily

Grapes

Nerello Mascalese

Santo Spirito Etna

Tasting Notes

Intense ruby red in color, with garnet hints. On the nose, the wine expresses floral notes with delicate and intense violet notes. On the palate it's a harmonious and well-defined wine with elegant tannins and a sapid and mineral persistence.

Food Match

Pairs well with red meats and grilled mushrooms.
