Day #[wpdts-day-of-year start=”post-created”] of the year.

Sequoia Grove Cabernet Sauvignon

The ancient Greeks and Romans valued mint for its digestive and refreshing properties, and the Mayans and Aztecs gifted chocolate to the world. And here we are today, National Chocolate Mint Day, celebrating the combined wisdom of ancient civilizations, all wrapped up in a tiny bite-size chocolate-mint. I decided to have some fun with this and tasted three different chocolate mints: Andes, Ghirardelli, and York Peppermint Patty, paired with Sequoia Grove Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This full-bodied California Cabernet with its elegant tannins, spicy aromas, rich black cherry, hints of tobacco, and vanilla was an excellent match for the refreshing mint and dark chocolate. Clear favorites were Ghirardelli and York Peppermint Patty – Try it!

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby in color with intense aromas and flavors of blackberry, red and black cherries and currants interwoven with sweet spice, floral and mineral notes. The palate has a big, round, silky arc with smooth tannins, impeccable balance, and a long, flavorful finish.
