St. Francis Sonoma County Claret
An apocalyptic book in a bourgeois, upper-NY state kind of way, if that makes any sense: In “Leave the World Behind” by Rumaan Alam, the world hits its breaking point subtly. The imminence of fall-out lurks under the surface of every scene. What to do when times are uncertain? The families break out wine many times during the course of the book. A deep red like St. Francis Claret would fit exactly the mood. A big, fruity Bordeaux blend, this Claret is very full-bodied with notes of spice, and I can just picture drinking a glass of it while soaking in the tub, putting together a puzzle, or other things you do when internet and satellite have inexplicably disappeared.
