Day #[wpdts-day-of-year start=”post-created”] of the year.

Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Old Tawny Porto

The English first fell in love with baking apples, following their introduction from Asia, and the first known written recipe for apple pie dates back to an English cookbook published in 1381. Since then, Apple Pie has been truly Americanized and flourished in its adopted nation to mean more than just pie. Today for National Apple Pie day, I have decided to pair my pie creation with an equally Anglocentric beverage even though not English; Port. I have selected a 20-Year-Old Tawny Port by Taylor Fladgate with more than 300 years of history in port production. Tawny port invokes many of the apple pie characteristics; dark spices, cinnamon, clove, caramel, and baked apples. Give it a try it’s easy as pie!

Tasting Notes

With an intense amber, tawny color, the wine has opulent, voluptuous, spicy, jammy and nutty aromas with orange blossom notes and a fine oak influence coming from the long aging in cask. The full palate is very rich, with concentrated flavor and a long, mellow finish.

Created by potrace 1.16, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2019

Food Match

Pairs well with figs, almonds, pecan pie, desserts made with coffee or caramel, and crème brûlée. It can be appreciated at the end of the meal with walnuts or dried fruit, and it can be served cool in the summer
