The addition of cinnamon sticks or a pinch of nutmeg gives it a cozy, spiced aroma, evoking the essence of holiday cheer. Served in a large, beautifully garnished pitcher, Red Christmas Sangria is not only visually stunning with its vibrant hues but also a versatile and refreshing choice for gatherings. red christmas sangria recipe

Ingredients

1 bottle (750 ml) red wine (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Grenache work well)

1/2 cup brandy or orange liqueur (such as Cointreau)

2 cups cranberry juice (unsweetened is best)

1/4 cup simple syrup (optional, adjust to taste)

1 orange, thinly sliced

1 apple, diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for a crisp flavor)

1/2 cup fresh cranberries

1/2 cup pomegranate seeds

2-3 cinnamon sticks

Club soda or ginger ale (optional, for topping)

Instructions

1. Prepare the fruit: Slice the orange and dice the apple. Add these, along with the cranberries and pomegranate seeds, to a large pitcher.

2. Mix the base: Pour the red wine, brandy (or orange liqueur), and cranberry juice into the pitcher. Stir well to combine.

3. Sweeten it up: Add simple syrup to taste if you’d like a sweeter sangria. Stir thoroughly.

4. Add spices: Drop in the cinnamon sticks for that warm, holiday spice infusion.

5. Chill: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, or overnight, to let the flavors meld together.

6. Serve: When ready to serve, pour the sangria into glasses filled with ice, making sure to include some fruit in each serving. For a bubbly twist, top each glass with a splash of club soda or ginger ale.

7. Garnish and enjoy: Garnish with additional fruit slices or a sprig of rosemary for an extra festive touch.
