Alta Vista

Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza Valle de Uco, Mendoza

A striking red that melds layers of brambly raspberry, mission fig and guava against savory elements of peppercorn, olive and bay leaf. This has room to grow, as the finish features tannic grip but also length and a note of chocolate-laced raspberry. Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2032. 1,000 cases made, 54 cases imported.

In 2001, Alta Vista became the first Argentine winery to produce single vineyard wines. Alta Vista developed its Terroir Management® system for wine growing and winemaking, wherein grapes grown in distinctive sites expressthe true characteristics of each vineyard through distinctive wines. These vineyards, located in Luján de Cuyo, were planted in 1935. This terroir has great thermal amplitude and there is almost no risk of frost. The climate is dry and soil is clay-loam, deep with pebbles 13 feet from the surface. Irrigation is traditional, with water from the Andes Mountains and groundwater. he selection massale vines are simple Guyot pruned and produce medium-sized clusters, with loose and fine grains.

85% Malbec, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon
Aged in new French oak barrels for 20 months.
Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon were handpicked during the first 15 days of April, when grape maturity was reached. They were carried to the winery in boxes to minimize damage and refrigerated for 24 hours. Clusters were classified in sorting tables, destemmed and gravity fed into small concrete tanks and spontaneously fermented by the native yeasts of our terroir. During fermentation, regular punch downs and pump overs are done to improve aroma, color and tannin extractions. Malbec vatting lasted 32 days and Cabernet Sauvignon vatting lasted 27 days. Malolactic fermentation occurred spontaneously in tanks and then the barrels were filled to begin the aging process. Finally, it was bottled and stored in the cellar before being released to the market.
Brilliant ruby red in color. Fresh fruit aromas on the nose, cherry, blackberry, guava and a touch of bay leaves with oak wood notes coming through to provide aromatic complexity. Full bodied and superb structure on the palate with a complex finish. Excellent acidity and great aging potential. Recommended to decant before drinking it cold. Can be cellared for over 10 years.

Best paired with aged beef rib-eye steaks, hearty lamb stews, and roasted wild game.
