Ingredients
1 bottle of red wine
¼ cup brandy
8 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2 star anise
¼ cup of sugar, honey, or maple syrup
Optional garnishes: oranges, cranberries, etc.
Red Wine Suggestions:
St. Francis Cabernet Sauvignon
Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages
Montes Classic Cabernet Sauvignon
St. Francis Sonoma County Old Vines Zinfandel
Instructions:
- Combine ingredients in a large pot. Pour the wine and brandy into a large pot or saucepan. Add in spices and fruit as desired
- Heat Slowly. Heat the mixture over low to medium heat and stir occasionally. Do not boil the water as the heat can burn off the alcohol and change the flavor
- Simmer & Infuse. Let the ingredients simmer for about 15-20 minutes to allow the spices and fruits to infuse. Taste occasionally and adjust sweetness or spice depending on your desired preferences
- Strain & Serve. Remove the pot from the heat and strain the mixture through a fine strainer to remove the spices and fruit pieces
- Garnish. Add a garnish if desired. Some common garnishes include cinnamon sticks, cranberries, orange slices, and star anise. Serve in a glass of your choice
