‘Tis the season of holiday cheer and warm tidings! Snow flurries drifting outside and frosty nights by the fireplace capture the simple joys of winter, but one of the best traditions is baking Christmas cookies with loved ones. From sugar cookies and gingerbread to peppermint bark, snickerdoodles, and almond shortbread, there’s no end to the delicious possibilities. This year don’t let the kids have all the cookie fun! Elevate your holiday treats with a decadent wine pairing to complement each sweet, buttery bite. We’ve rounded up our favorite Christmas cookie and wine pairings to make your season even more festive and indulgent.

sugar cookies & caposaldo prosecco

Sugar cookies have been my favorite Christmas cookie every year since I was just a little kid. My family has a secret sugar cookie recipe that has been passed down for generations. When i was a little kid, I used to love to pair all my cookies with a glass of milk, but in recent years since I entered adulthood, I have swapped my milk for a nice glass of wine. My favorite wine to pair with sugar cookies is the Caposaldo Prosecco. While both are delicious on their own, together they are unstoppable! Prosecco is a perfect match for sugar cookies, with its light, fruity flavors enhancing the cookies’ delicate sweetness. The wine’s acidity cuts through the cookies’ buttery richness, creating a balanced and flavorful pairing. Plus, the bubbles elevate the cookies’ soft, delicate texture, making for a delightful combination. Sharing Prosecco with my family’s cherished sugar cookies has become a new holiday tradition, adding a touch of elegance to this nostalgic favorite.

gingerbread & croft tawny port

No holiday season is complete without Gingerbread. Every year my family not only makes gingerbread cookies, but we also compete in a Gingerbread house making contest. The smell of cinnamon, ginger, and molasses wafting through the air makes the holiday extra cozy and special. Every year I always look forward to pairing my gingerbread cookies with a glass of the Croft Reserve Tawny Port. Tawny port is a perfect combination because it has rich, nutty, caramel, and dried fruit notes that enhance the warm spices of gingerbread, such as cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. The port’s natural sweetness balances the mild bitterness from the molasses in gingerbread, while its smooth, velvety texture contrasts with the cookie’s crumbly texture. This is the perfect cozy pairing to enjoy by the fireplace, savoring the warm, spicy sweetness of this delightful duo.

Almond Shortbread & Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal

The Almond Shortbread Christmas cookie pairs beautifully with Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal. This classic holiday treat’s buttery richness and delicate almond flavor are perfectly balanced by the wine’s full-bodied bright flavor and sweetness. With honeyed notes and ripe stone fruit flavors, the Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris complements the nutty warmth of the almonds while adding a layer of complexity to the simple yet luxurious cookie. The wine’s slight spiciness echoes the toasty notes of the shortbread, making each bite and sip a harmonious blend of flavors. This pairing elevates the classic cookie, transforming it into a festive indulgence that truly captures the spirit of the holiday season.

Peppermint Bark & Louis Jadot Beaune Theurons Premier Cru

Peppermint bark is my go-to winter treat! It’s super easy to make, requires no oven, and is always a crowd favorite (and crushing up candy canes is a productive way to relieve holiday stress). When it’s time for a little sweet treat, I pair my peppermint bark with a glass of Louis Jadot Beaune Theurons Premier Cru! Beaune Theurons is medium bodied Pinot Noir has delectable notes of berries and red fruits with hints of black tea, wood smoke, and earth. The rich creaminess of the chocolate contrasts with the high acidity of the Pinot Noir, while maintaining balance and not overpowering the delicate fruity notes of the wine, creating the ultimate winter-time duo.

Snickerdoodles & Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Grand Cru SommerberG

Snickerdoodles have long been a classic Christmas cookie, making them the perfect sweet treat for any Holiday party. To complement the sweetness of these cookies, pair them with Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg 2020. This wine features an aromatic palette of ripe white fruits such as vineyard peach and pear, along with aromas of honey that bring an elegant touch to the palate. The wine’s acidity and complex flavors create a delightful balance, enhancing the simple, comforting sweetness of the snickerdoodles. This pairing offers a sophisticated yet approachable dessert combination for a festive after-dinner treat.

Pairing Christmas cookies with the right wine adds an extra layer of joy to the holiday season. So gather your loved ones, pour a glass, and enjoy the perfect blend of holiday treats and festive sips. Here’s to sweet moments, cozy gatherings, and a truly delicious holiday!
