Some nights after dinner, I feel like treating myself to a small but mighty glass of something delicious while I read or watch a show. My tastes fall towards either bitter or sweet, but whichever direction, it’s got to be intense—I think this has to do with one’s palate becoming saturated with flavors over the course of the day, so that stronger tastes better by the evening. If I’m in the mood for bitter, I pour amaro. If it’s sweet I’m looking for, I head directly to the Port wine. And I always have a bottle of Fonseca Bin 27 on hand. Fruity and juicy, with notes of black cherry, blackberry, and spices, a small glass is perfect alongside cake or biscotti, and even perfect as dessert in and of itself. As they say in Portugal: Saúde!
This sweet wine shows fresh, rich blackberry and cassis aromas. On the palate, it has a well-knit structure, with a velvety, luscious mouthfeel and smooth tannins.
Food Match
This wine pairs well with strong-flavored hard cheeses--a good farmhouse Cheddar or an aged Gouda would be perfect. It is delicious with desserts made with dark chocolate or berries. Made to be enjoyed immediately, without further aging.
