For over 35 years, Aurelio Montes and his partners at Vina Montes have pushed the boundaries of great winemaking in Chile. From literally seeking new heights and planting grapes at elevation in Apalta, to reviving Carmenere to a premium level of quality, to implementing sustainable winegrowing and dry farming, Montes has become a benchmark for new Chilean wineries. Each Montes wine, crafted with meticulous attention to detail, seeks to marry the wild natural elements of the Chilean terroir with a touch of grace and pride in winemaking.
Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon
The flagship wine of Vina Montes, Alpha Cabernet, is a blend of two estate vineyards with unique soils, each bringing a distinct character to the wine. The vineyard in Apalta, where hillside soils are shallow and riddled with pebbles, and foothill soils are deep and wet, brings elegant and complex aromas as well as intense color. The Marchigue estate, an expanse of gently rolling hills, where soils are clay with large, rounded stones, gives depth and intensity to the flavors and a textural element on the palate.
Deep, ruby-red in color, the nose is complex, with ripe strawberry, prune, and blueberry aromas. Silky on the palate, the secondary notes of of tobacco, leather, and cedar emerge, with silky tannins on the palate and a long and elegant finish.
