Day #[wpdts-day-of-year start=”post-created”] of the year.

Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Old Tawny Porto

I never understood it when diners decided to forgo cake, pie, chocolate, or name-any-other delicious baked good and have a cheese plate as dessert, instead. It didn’t make sense! Who says no to cake? Then one evening, I had a Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Tawny Port in hand and aged, nutty cheddar and gloriously stinky Stilton on a plate. The sweet and savory worked so well together, I was converted. I’ll be sampling the cheese plate instead of cake section more often—as long as I have a well-aged Tawny Port with me.

ORIGIN

Douro, Portugal

Grapes

Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Tinta Amarela

Taylor Fladgate 20-Year-Old Tawny Port red wine bottle from Douro Valley, Oporto, Portugal

Tasting Notes

With an intense amber, tawny color, the wine has opulent, voluptuous, spicy, jammy and nutty aromas with orange blossom notes and a fine oak influence coming from the long aging in cask. The full palate is very rich, with concentrated flavor and a long, mellow finish.

Food Match

Pairs well with figs, almonds, pecan pie, desserts made with coffee or caramel, and crème brûlée. It can be appreciated at the end of the meal with walnuts or dried fruit, and it can be served cool in the summer.
