“Sapiens, A Graphic Novel” is the updated “Sapiens” book by Yuval Noah Harari about the beginning of humankind, exploring theories and adventures on how we traversed the past 2.5 million years to today. A totally engaging graphic comic, it puts you in a very specific mindset: awed, immersed, mind-boggled, contemplative. But…in a fun way. Sapiens is serious and complex, but you never get lost in the minutiae, because comic book characters take you along for the ride. This surprising, engaging, and rich book needs a very specific kind of wine: one from the Old World, where humans made wine long before we wrote about it (much less paired it with a book), and just enough complexity to keep you sipping and engaged—yet nothing so loud that it distracts you from the trails of humankind’s history.
