These kinds of events are often open to the general public as well as to members of the trade, and if there are some being held in your area, it’s a great way to learn about what’s on offer. The spit buckets are there for a reason. They’re usually black and opaque, and people will not look twice at someone classily holding their own. Some events will even give you a separate paper cup to spit into, which you can then pour into the spit bucket (keeping your face away from the bin). Save the swallowing for your favorite samples.
