Chateau La Nerthe Cuvée des Cadettes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge

June 8th marks National Best Friend Day, and for me I also celebrate my partners birthday! When commemorating valuable members of your life, it’s only fair to open a bottle of wine of equal value and importance of an extraordinary individual. I am partial to wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape for all major celebrations, but honestly who isn’t? These historic wines have been produced for over 500 years and my selection for tonight, Chateau La Nerthe Cuvée des Cadettes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, comes from one of the oldest estates in the region. This wine is complex, elegant, and has an incredible balance within its pallet. This is the perfect wine to make a toast to your best friend and mine!

Grapes

52% Grenache Noir, 38% Syrah, 10% Mouvèdre

Tasting Notes

Dark garnet color with purple hints. The nose shows black cherry liqueur aromas with toasted notes and fruity scents of strawberries and balsamic. On the palate, beautiful richness, density and concentration of sandalwood, cedar, and cherry blossom are followed by a spicy finish. The aromatic complexity and elegance are both qualities that reveal the richness and balance of La Nerthe.

Food Match

A wonderful pairing with red meat dishes, especially beef, lamb and venison. An ideal accompaniment to hearty casseroles or a rich, warm, winter stew.
