Description
Alessandro Medici takes fresh look at Lambrusco with his brainchild “Phermento,” a wine produced using exclusively Lambrusco di Sorbara grapes fermented using the Ancestral Method of sparkling wine production. Sorbara, which is one of the most delicate and lightly colored Lambrusco grapes, has a high level of acidity and low tannins that are well suited to the Ancestral method of production. The Sorbara vines are 35 years old, grown Cordone Speronato (cordon trained and spur pruned) in clay soil and with restricted yields. The wine ferments in bottle to brut nature (zero dosage), and is capped with a crown cap. The internal pressure is 2.5 bars, making this wine frizzante. The wine is best served at a temperature of 46 – 50 degrees Fahrenheit and should be consumed within two years of vintage.

The 2022 vintage was a challenging year, the summer proved once again to be hot and required the family to implement targeted drip irrigation with their recycled water system to ensure the grapes would reach their full potential. The changing climate and resulting heat remains the largest problem on the Medici estate, each year this challenges the metabolism of the grapevine. Fortunately the fall ushered in some cooler weather and rain which help the vines produce beautifully mature fruit. The quality of the grapes are high, with highly concentrated fruit notes.
What The Critics Say...
A wine of history and pure joy, this watermelon Jolly Rancher-colored sparkling wine bursts out of the glass with aromas of wild strawberry, green herbs and candied rose petals. The bracing palate pops with electric acidity, tart lime, watermelon and saline. A bottle for all occasions. 94 Points
