How To Say It
Vino Joe Says...
Description
The Nebbiolo for Il Principe come from vineyards in Barbaresco and Vezza d’Alba in the hillsides of the Roero area. The soil of Barbaresco is bluish-grey calcareous-clay marl that is poor in organic substances but rich in manganese and potassium. The Roero vineyards have loose sandy soil. Following fermentation, the Nebbiolo is left to refine in large vats for a year. Il Principe showcases typical varietal flavors and characteristics, as well as the influence of the Roero terroir. This classic and pleasant Nebbiolo has excellent character and is suited to medium aging.

Vino Joe Says...
Maybe the best-kept secret and best red wine value coming out of Piedmont — the land of Barolo and Barbaresco. Like those two noble wines, Il Principe is 100% Nebbiolo, and is from the very same area where the grapes for Barbaresco are chosen. What makes this such a find is that it’s like getting a Barbaresco for a fraction of the price, and you don’t have to wait years for it to mature. It’s quite drinkable and enjoyable now — yet, if you want to cellar it, it’ll definitely develop for at least the next 5 years or more. A budget-friendly cellar starter.

A brilliant garnet red, this wine has notes of violet, red fruits, plums, and fine spices. It is intense yet harmonious with good structure and complexity. The tannins are fine, and the finish is round and long.
Pasta with ragù, turkey, medium aged cheeses.
Vinified in steel tanks. 10 days of maceration with the skins, with a soft “shower” system of wetting the cap at a temperature between 32°C and 28°C. Malolactic fermentation in steel
Enjoyable now, will age gracefully over the next 5-7 years.
The 2021 vintage began with rain and snow that piled up to 24 inches among the vineyards. March was dry with temperatures above average that prompted an early start of vegetation. Spring brought previous rainfall and below average temperatures that lasted until the end of May slowed the development of the vines. June was the beginning of a long, hot, and dry summer that lasted until a mild September. Harvest was at the usual time, yielding healthy and perfectly ripe grapes characterized by outstanding balance.
What The Critics Say...
The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo Il Principe offers a ripe style, with baked plum, spice, and turned earth. Medium to full-bodied, on the palate it reveals generous black cherry notes, a rounded mouthfeel, and fine tannins. This is a charming and easy-drinking red for the near term. www.JebDunnuck.com
