Viña Montes Purple Angel 2020

Colchagua Valley

93 points | SRP $119

Aaron Romano, Senior Editor for Wine Spectator, reviewed this celebrated Chilean wine, known for its powerful and velvety Carmenère and Petit Verdot blend. It opens with an elegant array of fresh raspberry, pink peppercorn and river mint flavors before turning broad. There are vanilla bean and cassis notes that cling to a richly textured blackberry core that lingers around fine tannins, echoing back to the core flavors and adding notes of dark chocolate. He recommends to drink now through 2034.

Fonseca Classic Port 2003

94 Points | SRP $109

A true classic from one of Portugal’s finest port houses. James Molesworth, Senior Editor, tasted this vintage twice with consistent tasting notes of alluring warmed ganache, toasted black sesame, plum cake and canned brown bread notes. It shows a black treacle hint, along with succulence and brambly grip on the back end, giving this classic vintage port a distinctive persona. Best to pick up now to sip in the new year 2025 through 2045.

Domaine Carneros Vintage Brut 2020

93 Points | SRP $39 | #19/100 2023 Choice

As a top choice of 2023, this affordable sparkling wine is a must-try going into the holidays. Senior Editor Tim Fish notes that this highly-rated wine is an elegant brut with combine notes of sumptuous cherry and pear flavors laced with crème brûlée and roasted nuts and builds richness to the finish.

Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne
Grands Crus Blanc de Blancs 2012

96 Points | SRP $275

Alison Napjus, Senior Editor and Tasting Director, calls this Champagne a gorgeous blond bombshell, fragrant with roasted hazelnut, vanilla and smoke notes that waft through layers of poached pear and quince, pastry cream, pain d’épices and candied ginger. This Champagne is sculpted by a vibrant acidity that’s seamlessly knit to the plush, silky mousse and chalky underpinning. Ideal for any celebration- drink now through 2033.

Craggy Range Sauvignon Blanc
Martinborough Te Muna 2023

96 Points | SRP $275

MaryAnn Worobiec, Senior Editor, highly recommends this Sauvignon Blanc is a bright and zesty expression of the Martinborough region of New Zealand. Bursting with flavors of passion fruit, lime, mango, passion fruit and fresh herbs, it’s a perfect wine for those who enjoy crisp, refreshing whites.

Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Cuvée des Cadettes 2020

94 Points | SRP $166

A robust red from the Rhône, is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Kristen Bieler, Senior Editor for Wine Spectator, notes the plum reduction and cherry preserves are ripe and decadent in this red. They are backed up by slightly chewy tannins that give this good grip. Shows attractive concentration, but good energy too, with crushed iron laying a solid groundwork, while singed alder, dried flowers and toasted aniseed detail the long finish. Drink now through 2035.

Maison Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Domaine Louis Jadot 2021

92 Points | SRP $255

A classic Burgundy from one of the region’s most iconic producers, Bruce Sanderson evaluates this Pinot Noir that combines elegance with structure, evoking floral, cherry, kirsch and earth flavors. The structure leans toward tannins in the balance, but the length and intensity indicate that there is more to come. Sanderson recommends that this red Burgundy is best to sip from 2027 through 2045.

Résonance Pinot Noir Dundee Hills Découverte Vineyard 2021

93 Points | SRP $75

From the Dundee Hills in Oregon, this Pinot Noir features vibrant cherry and raspberry notes, framed by stony minerality and forest floor tones while building tension toward medium-grained tannins. Reviewed by Tim Fish, he recommends drinking this beautifully crafted wine now through 2032.

Alta Vista Malbec Agrelo Serenade Single Vineyard 2020

92 Points | SRP $56

Hailing from Argentina, this Malbec is rich and opulent, with engaging aromas of slate, mountain herbs and fresh plum. This red’s pristine structure balances the plum and berry flavors against a saline edge, which lends a mouthwatering quality and lengthens the finish around black pepper notes and smooth-textured tannins. Reviewer Aaron Romano recommends drinking now through 2035.

Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2019

98 Points | SRP $270

A true icon of Italian winemaking, Sassicaia continues to impress vintage after vintage. This 2019 release is no exception, with its supple, beautifully defined, black cherry, black currant and blackberry fruit. It’s a wine of depth, balance, and elegance, earning its 98-point rating from reviewer Bruce Sanderson, Senior Editor.

Bonus: Taylor Fladgate Tawny Port 20-Year-Old

93 Points | SRP $61

Rounding out the list is this exceptional 20-year-old Tawny Port. James Molesworth, Senior Editor, notes that it is lovely, with a mix of persimmon, white peach, hazelnut, green tea and singed alder notes all moving together in streamlined harmony. The long, elegant finish has nice latent energy.
