Taste the Rainbow
Color is a cue to style and age. Young, fresh, light-bodied white wines will have a green or straw tint. Oak-aged and fuller-bodied whites are gold or deep yellow. Deep purple-red or light ruby red can indicate a youthful red wine. Orange means the red wine has some age to it. Brown means the wine is oxidized, like a Sherry or Tawny Port.
