Located on the coastline of Newport RI, the Newport Mansions stand. They are synonymous with history, opulence, elegance, and who could forget those infamous over-the-top Gatsby-like parties!
The Newport Mansions are open daily to the public, where you can get a glimpse of The Breakers, Marble House, The Elms, Green Animals Topiary Garden, or the Chateau-sur-Mer. AND if you have enough in the budget, plan a private tour or dinner with cocktails at one of these refined, world-renowned homes.
Nevertheless, if you can’t afford the personalized, private experience but want a closer look, there is another option, for one weekend a year, when the mansions come to life: the Newport Mansions Food & Wine Festival.
Newport Mansions Food & Wine Festival
Celebrating its 16th year, the Newport Mansions Food & Wine Festival features sophisticated dinners with delicious wines from around the world and fabulous food inspired by local and regional chefs. There is a Sunday Brunch along with 23 spectacular seminars hosted by wine and food experts discussing a wide range of topics as guests sample world-class wines, bourbons, and other beverages throughout the weekend.
Some of the personalities that attend the festival include Martha Stewart, Claudine Pepin, local chefs, and winemakers from across the globe. Esteemed sommeliers such as Marika Vida, Robin Kelly O’Connor, Dominick Purnomo, Joseph Hageman, and Nick Daddona take the short ride from Boston, upstate NY, NYC, and PA to join this festive occasion.
You will also find fantastic brands that attend annually such as Kerrygold butter, Cabot cheeses, Calvisus Caviar, Champagne Taittinger, Sequoia Grove, Cakebread Cellars, St. Francis Winery & Vineyards, and more.
The Food & Wine Festival breathes life into these otherwise quiet historic dwellings, with music, dancing, laughter, and the obvious indulgence of delicious food and wine. If you are lucky enough to snag a seminar or dinner ticket, it will not only provide you with in-depth food and wine knowledge but present the opportunity to imagine yourself as a Vanderbilt.
The Mansions are a magical place that transports you back in time. You can peruse the perfectly decorated time-period rooms while eating and drinking as others have done a century ago. This is a can’t miss event!
